The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) /Ghana Democracy Rights and Governance (DRG) and Economic Growth Offices’ new cross sectoral governance project are seeking applications for “Northern Ghana Governance Activity” program to accelerate governance improvements and manage conflict in support of enhanced agricultural development in Ghana’s Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions.
The overall goal of the activity is “strengthened responsive governance for improved agriculture development in northern Ghana”.
The purpose of the activity is to increase the capacity of Ghana’s decentralized agricultural structures at the regional and district levels, improve accountability and performance efficiency of these decentralized agricultural structures, build community consensus, and strengthen civil society’s demand for better service delivery in agriculture in partnership with the private sector. The activity also has the related purpose of enabling government and civil society to more effectively mitigate conflicts related to agriculture and natural resource management.
Objectives
The activity’s objectives are:
- Strengthened institutional capacity for effective coordination and integration of key actors in local government and decentralized agricultural sector,
- Improved enabling environment for community organizations, CSOs and the private sector to participate as equal partners in decentralization and agricultural development,
- Enhanced women’s participation in local governance, and increased access to information and agricultural opportunities, and
- Increased community dialogue and consensus building to prevent conflict and ensure sustainable development in agriculture.
Funding Information
USAID intends to provide $12,000,000 in total USAID funding over a 5- year period.
Eligibility Criteria
Any qualified US or non-US non-governmental organization (including, but not limited to, Private Voluntary Organizations (PVOs) and for-profit entities) or Public International Organization (PIOs) is eligible to apply for the program.
