Hellenic Aid

Hellenic Aid is the Greece’s official development assistance, managing funding support to programmes and projects in other countries with whom Greece has bilateral relations. It also monitors and facilitates programmes, which are implemented by the civil society, governmetal agencies and institutions. The aid is also channelized through the European Commission under various EuropeAid programmes. Hellenic Aid has also prioritzed emergency humanitarian support to areas affected by conflict or natural disasters.

Hellenic Aid’s importance given to NGOs is evident through the establishement of the NGOs’ and Development Education Directorate that “is responsible for the development and mobilization of civil society, providing support to development NGOs and planning policy for the establishment of new ones.” Some of the projects funded by the Aid include ‘Development of the Kalasha Cultural Centre in Pakistan,’ ‘Establishing a Network of Young Leaders from the Balkans, the Mediterranean, the Middle East’ and ‘the Black Sea and University syllabus enhancement regarding the greek language and civilization and their diffusion in local educational institutes of the Gagauzia region of the Republic of Moldova.’
