Sorry I saw this opportunity late. I am just about to start a small vocational institute for “drop-out” women and girls in Freetown, Sierra Leone in October this year. I will train them in English, Business Maths, Catering, Tailoring and Fashion Design; regardless their educational level. I used to run a similar institute for refugee Sierra Leoneans when we were in Guinea during the civil war in Sierra Leone.

Kindly keep me informed when next this oppotunity arise. Many thanks.

  10. Nansamba Mutaawe Milly says:

My name is Nansamba Mutaawe Milly the strategic planning and resource mobilisation officer Child Aid Uganda.Child Aid Uganda is currently supporting 521 children on the education program funded by the Chello foundation and 60% of these beneficiaries are female. However there is still a lot that needs to be done to ensure that more girls are in position to attain education but this is not possible due to limited funding.
Lyantonde district is a hot spot in the sense that track drivers who are traveling long journeys make stop overs in the main town of Lyantonde and sexually exploit the naive girls who have not got a chance of attending school but need to earn a living. According to the recent research carried out by Uganda Youth Development Link (UYDEL)in Lyantonde on commercial sexual exploitation of children, these girls who are sexually exploited mainly fall in the age bracket of 14-18. This habit does not only expose them to sexual exploitation but also to HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases and there is a fear of wiping out of a productive generation in the district in a few years to come.As Child Aid Uganda, we have put our focus on ensuring that we enroll as many girls as possible on the education program so that they are not left idol. These children will also be aware of their rights and will have a brighter future other than selling their bodies to earn a living. Our aim as an organisation is to ensure that once a child has been identified after the needs assessment as being vulnerable, this child is supported until they finish their education at the tertiary level to ensure that they can be in position to either start up some thing for themselves or be in position to get a job that earns them a living. This way they are in position to help their relatives back at home and ensure better standards of living. We as Child Aid Uganda need funds to ensure that these young girls are not exploited but are given a chance to attain education and realise bright futures ahead of them.
