The Freudenberg Foundation is a German-based grantmaking organization established in 1984 for the purpose of promoting education and strengthen peaceful coexistence. The mission statement of the Foundation states that it “strives to promote the social, linguistic, educational and vocational integration of the coming generation.” The work of the Foundation covers initiation, funding and evaluation of projects with themes it focuses upon. It also organizes workshops, working groups and conferences to build linkages between various actors of development and strengthens dialogue between social science and practice. Besides, it also has “public relations work and political counselling with the aim to contribute to the dissemination of successful models of action and to enrich the process of opinion formation by publications and public discussions” and “Co-operation with local, national, and international partners, as for example municipalities, state authorities, federal authorities, foundations, the European Commission, and the Council of Europe.”

The four core areas of its focus are:

(2) Youth between School & Working Life
(3) Democratic Culture
(4) Work for Mentally-ill Persons

The Foundation accepts requests frm NGOs around the world, seeking funding support for projects that fall within the thematic areas. However, the request letter should be accompanied by a short, two-page concept note explaining the purpose, approach and other details briefly. Applicants can also download a form from the Foundation’s website to help them develop the note. The Foundation will review the concept note and if it is found suitable, it will seek a detailed application from the organization.
