KIOS – A Human Rights Foundation in Finland

KIOS is the Finnish NGO Foundation for Human Rights that promotes
human rights in
developing countries based upon the treaties and other instruments established by the United Nations. KIOS provides grant support to
NGOs in developing countries working for the promotion and protection of human rights. It also works in promoting awareness about the human rights situation in developing countries within Finland. The Foundation provides funding for
projects that are thematically focused upon democratic rights, gender equality and right to
education. Specifically, the funded projects include human rights awareness raising and education, human rights campaigning, lobbying and
advocacy, human rights monitoring and documentation, provision of legal aid and capacity building. Geographically, KIOS focuses its support primarily to Eastern
Africa and South
Asia.
NGOs from countries in these regions can apply for funding support during any part of the year. However, it is important to read through the application guidelines and ensure the application checklist is completed before applying for the funds.
