Fund for Global Human Rights, The

The Fund for Global Human Rights is an international grantmaking fund that works to secure basic freedoms around the world by supporting frontline organizations which are challenging abuse to ensure “a strong, effective human rights community worldwide.” There are competitive grants provided through a process for NGOs applying for the Fund. It seeks to increase the flow of funds to human rights-based organization to strengthen human rights movements in different countries around the world.

Grantmaking is confined to certain regions like South Asia (Pakistan, India), West Africa (Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea), the African Great Lakes (Uganda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo), North Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia), Latin America (Mexico, Guatemala), and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Philippines).

Organizations can seek grants from the Fund by submitting the application form. Applicants need to read through the guidelines available at this link before submitting the proposals. The grants are awarded twice a year based on different regions. For countries like India, Pakistan, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burundi, and Uganda, the deadline is around October/November and for countries like Mexico, Guatemala, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, the Philippines, and Thailand in May/June every year. The Fund accepts proposals in five different languages: English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Thai.
