If you are looking for some innovative ideas to impart knowledge about the prevention of HIV and AIDS to youths in your community, here is an interesting computer game developed by UNESCO. “Fast Car: Traveling Safely around the World” is a car racing game that not only helps the player know about HIV and AIDS, but it also gives a virtual tour around some of the World’s Heritage Sites.
Part of the project called “Development of interactive multimedia tools on HIV and AIDS for youths,” the game seeks to entertain and educate young people with accurate and reliable information about HIV prevention. As youths around the world are vulnerable to HIV, they often lack useful resources to understand and take prevention against it. The game can be relevant to them as it provides information about HIV and its prevention in an interactive manner.
However, the problem is that the game is available only in three languages (English, French and Russian) and there is no indication of further language translations to benefit local communities in developing countries. Nevertheless, it is still a remarkable tool to empower educated youths so that they can take the message beyond to their communities. Youths as young as sixteen years can play the game.
NGOs can gather a group of youths from their communities or even their young staff members, download this game on their office computers and allow them to play it for some time. As the car races through some of the World’s Heritage Sites, the player is able to get additional bonus points at checkpoints as he or she correctly answers questions about HIV and its prevention. For incorrect answers, there are useful definitions and information given.
To download the game, you need to provide information about your name, email and your location. Once downloaded on the computer, each player has to create a username and a password and use them to log in to play back. Only one player can play the game each time on a computer.
To download the game, visit this link.
The download size of the game is 32 MB.
