Key Job Responsibilities
The Senior Director will perform the following functions-
- Leads management team to set the key strategic priorities and indicators on FCV to guide institution-wide work, establishes global goals to ensure alignment with the WBG Strategy and supports Regions in developing appropriate analysis and interventions in Country Partnership Frameworks;
- Helps to build and integrate innovative, cost-effective and evidence-based approaches and services, in the development of solutions across all WBG operations in FCV situations;
- Monitors and reports on overall WBG targets and results on FCV;
- Works in partnership with other practices, as well as public and private stakeholders, in order to find tailored and holistic solutions to complex development challenges;
- Provides intellectual and solutions leadership for the WBG on how to influence and increase impact and performance on FCV issues;
- Promotes innovative and cross-cutting research and evidence, as well as the dissemination of Solution Area-specific knowledge at the global and local level;
- Mobilizes and engages with global partnerships programs and experts to continuously explore solutions and innovations;
- Represents the WBG internally, to the Board and externally as the focal point on FCV;
- Models exemplary WBG leadership values and managerial behaviors and reinforces these qualities in own management team and staff;
- Drives and inspires technical excellence within and beyond the FCV Cross-cutting Solution Area by creating an environment of learning and innovation that attracts and develops the best talent across the WBG, reflective of the diversity of our clients;
- Influences strategic staffing for the Global Practices and Regions to ensure talent issues relevant to FCV are addressed, supporting them in developing and implementing appropriate strategies for global staffing, deployment, talent and performance management;
- Instills a culture of evidence-based, yet client tailored engagement for highest development impact;
- Effectively draws on and manages multi-sectoral talent from across the WBG without direct line authority;
- In consultation with relevant stakeholders within the WBG, decides on the best use of internal and external resources for maximum client and developmental impact;
- Mobilizes internal and external funds, consistent with the corporate priorities towards WBG fundraising, to support the implementation of the strategic approach in situations of FCV and to deliver client impact on the ground through the Regions and Practices;
- Holds management team accountable for delivering the agreed upon work program through effective use of resources (human and budget) within the agreed parameters and in compliance with internal controls and policies, and ensures timely delivery and overall quality of services and outputs.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Masters or PhD degree in relevant field, and typically the successful candidate will have 15-18 years of experience in positions of increasing complexity and responsibility;
- Deep technical knowledge and experience expected in conflict and violence, fragile and failed states, governance and state building, political economy, economics, social development. Recognized expert, with global reach, within the WBG or among academics, partners or policymakers;
- Ability to influence global dialogue and policy on FCV;
- Track record of applying practice know-how and effective policy dialogue to achieve development results;
- Demonstrated in-depth experience working across practice and disciplinary boundaries, and with multiple stakeholders – both public and private – in building collaborative alliances for results;
- Proven ability to effectively implement complex change management initiatives;
- Substantive experience working in developing countries;
- Strong written and oral communication skills with proven experience in dealing with the media, external constituencies and expert groups;
- Passion for the WBG mission;
- Demonstrated leadership values and exemplification of WBG managerial and core competencies, as referenced below.
