The Oxfam International is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Policy & Advocacy Officer Africa-China Dialogue Platform, based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Policy & Advocacy Officer will support Oxfam’s Africa-China Dialogue Platform to influence policies and practices in relation to China’s role in Africa starting with agricultural investment targeting stockholders from both Africa and China sides and develop Advocacy strategy, policy development and influencing on issues related to China and Africa.
Oxfam works with partner organizations and alongside vulnerable women and men to end the injustices that cause poverty.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Policy and Advocacy Officer will perform the following functions-
- Develop and maintain key relationships with the AU and its member states and relevant African diplomatic missions on China and African related issues
- Maintain high level of expertise on China and Africa partnership, the African Union, Civil Society and advocacy in Africa
- Policy analysis on China – Africa partnership focusing primarily on agriculture investments
- Monitor and analysis of outcomes and impact of China and Africa partnership targeting agreed focus countries/regions
- Write and contribute to briefing papers, media briefs, articles for publications, advocacy letters and speeches for internal and external use as agreed
- Write policy briefs, and research paper on Africa and China relation
- Provide policy oversight for Oxfam’s positions on China and Africa partnership
- Provide advice and support to Oxfam national level related advocacy work
- Contribute in policy recommendations for Oxfam advocacy on China – Africa relation
- Maintain relationships with key stakeholders (Governments, Regional Bodies, CSOs, donors etc.) and participating in relevant conferences and meetings.
- Support monitoring, evaluation, learning and accountability system contributing to agency impact, programme quality, and efficiency.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Masters degree required in public policy, law or other related field;
- 4-5 years professional experience and at least 2 years of related experience;
- Excellent analysis and writing skills in English including the ability to complete succinct policy briefs;
- Excellent communication skills for advocacy and media work, and awareness of political sensitivities;
- Demonstrable experience effectively representing issues and institutions before middle to high level decision-makers, colleagues, media and the general public;
- Experience and Knowledge of China political context;
- Ability to prioritize, plan, and organize work in a complex institutional setting;
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well and flexibly in a multi-cultural environment;
- Experience on China and Africa politics and context;
- Sensitivity to diverse cultures.
