The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is currently inviting applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Economist based in Manila, Philippines.

Key Job Responsibilities
The Economist will perform the following tasks-
- Conduct macroeconomic, political and sectoral developments assessment in the country.
- Undertake economic and sector work, preparation of the Quarterly Economic Updates and the economic/planning related studies/reports, including Country Performance Assessment in line with ADB’s revised Performance Based Allocation Policy for its Asian Development Fund resources.
- Participate in leading the preparation of CPS and its update in line with the country’s development plans, and ADB’s medium term and long-term strategic framework.
- Undertake dialogue with government officials and development partners on macroeconomic policy issues, sectoral issues and CPS.
- Participate in, and contribute to missions to formulate CPS and its update.
- Participate in key policy dialogue forums organized by government and development partners.
- Maintain effective communication with the academia, media, non-government organizations, and civil society.
- Liaise with key private sector contacts with a view to understanding the constraints they face in conducting business, and identify areas where ADB could assist.
- Provide support to sub-regional cooperation initiatives and coordination with development partners.
- Act as field-based focal point for regional/sub regional cooperation matters for Bangladesh in its operation and dialogue with Headquarters (HQ) and other participating countries to facilitate development, delivery, and implementation of Regional Cooperation and Integration (RCI) initiatives, such as investment projects (e.g., in the transport and trade) and knowledge management/networking activities.
- Interact with all participating governments and those of other RCI groupings such as Greater Mekong Sub region (GMS) and Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC), to facilitate policy and operational coordination between Bangladesh and participating/counterpart countries.
- Participate in and contribute to relevant internal and external training and conferences and other activities for advocacy, dissemination and knowledge building.
- Provide leadership and support to reporting staff
- Supervise the performance of reporting staff, providing clear direction and regular monitoring and feedback on performance
- Ensure the ongoing learning and development of reporting staff
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Master’s degree, or equivalent, in Economics or other related fields.
- University degree in Economics, combined with specialized experience in similar organization/s, may be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree.
- Suitability to undertake the responsibilities mentioned above at the required level
- At least 8 years of relevant professional work experience related to country programming, economic and sector policy formulation and macroeconomic analysis
- Familiarity with multilateral development bank’s policies and procedures
- Excellent oral and written communications skills in English
- International experience working in several countries
