The World Bank is currently seeking applications from the eligible applicants for the post of Economist based in Kathmandu, Nepal.
The World Bank has set two ambitious goals to push extreme poverty to no more 3 percent by 2030, and to promote shared prosperity and greater equity in the developing world.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Economist will perform the following functions-
- Serve as the focal point within the country team on macroeconomic monitoring including through maintenance of a macroeconomic data base for Nepal, macroeconomic modeling and analysis.
- Lead and/or contribute as team member in the preparation of regular economic reports: Nepal Development Update; Macro-Poverty Outlook; and ad-hoc requests.
- Contribute as a key team-member in preparation of AAA, TA and lending tasks.
- Actively build cordial relationships with key government partners, local think tanks, and development partners to ensure high impact of analytical work.
- Collaborate closely with other Practices in analytical work; and with the CMU.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Master’s or Ph.D. degree in economics with at least five years of relevant professional experience.
- Ph. D. and less experience will also be considered.
- Strong analytical skills in macroeconomic and fiscal management and proven ability to conduct policy-relevant research.
- Integrative capacity including the ability to situate sectoral issues within a broader development framework.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present complicated analyses to non-specialist audiences.
- Ability to work flexibly on a range of assignments and adjust to a variety of complex evolving tasks to meet deadlines.
- Excellent knowledge of English and Nepali is essential.
