The World Health Organization (WHO) is currently seeking applications from the eligible applications for the post of Editor based in Geneva, Switzerland.
The primary role of WHO is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations’ system.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Editor will perform the following functions-
- Screen submitted manuscripts for originality, methodological rigor, international public health significance and suitability for the readership of the Bulletin of the World Health Organization.
- Write letters of rejection choose peer reviewers, present reviewed papers to editors’ meetings and correspond with authors on those papers considered for publication.
- Select, train and supervise external technical editors and supply them with formatted manuscripts in function of each issue’s print content and early online publication needs.
- Ensure that technical editors’ work is consistent with the WHO style guide, and is technically accurate and approved by corresponding authors.
- Contribute to the development of WHO Press monographs and serials as required by the Coordinator, WHO Press.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have-
- Recognized university degree in medicine or science and post graduate degree in public health and/or epidemiology.
- Additional post-graduate qualifications in advanced epidemiology and biostatistics.
- 7 years of editing experience for a peer-reviewed journal in the basic or applied sciences. Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Familiarity with manuscript tracking systems and open access publishing.
- Expert knowledge of English.
- Intermediate knowledge of French and another WHO official language.
