National Orphan Fund is dedicated to turning around the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children in Zambia by strengthening equitable accesibility to education. it is normally belived that orphans get it all hard to do almost everything. Nothing under the sun come easy and nothing above the soil gives easy but survival is the principle. Policies for HIV/AIDS have been developed and have been effectively implemented only in certain sectors but for the governements everything ends on paper (draft form). These awards should also present an opening for newly established dynamic NGOs with a focus to reach to the community. What is really sad is that NGO work has become more dependent on donor support.
NOF Zambia wants to change this trend of depending on donor funds but work hard to develop viable fundraising ventures and investment in order to have all programmes sustained. 3 out of 5 programmes under NOF Zambia are entirely self sustaining and generate billions.
However, an award of this nature cannot be so bad to get except that the guidelines are so restrictive for us to apply.
Thanx

1.4 RTY approaches
In implementation of her programmes, RTY uses partnership approach and networking arrangements. The benefits of working with partners are to enhance our strengths and build synergies so as to improve on service delivery and save costs of extra human resource. Through partnership we are able to provide a range of services to the programme beneficiaries whom otherwise we would not have been able to do so. Some of the partnerships and net workings include.
a. Health Units. In Kasese we partner with Alleluia Medical Centre and Health Centre III in Kalangala to provide services to HIV+ and AIDS affected families. Our partners and net works provide VCT services, treatment for opportunistic infections, facilitate HIV and AIDS workshops. They also enable us access free of charge recent information and fats about HIV and AIDS, TB and RH issues including STIs.
b. Youth and women groups. These help us in mobilization of communities and dissemination of information.
c. Technical offices- These include director of health services, gender and community development, local council IIIs and IVs. These provide technical support in terms of facilitating workshops, providing information and giving policy guidance.
d. Local leaders (LCIII’s and IV’s.). These have constituents and large followings. They are leaders of the people who can make the program fail or succeed. They provide political support and these gives our programmes visibility and attract respect and recognition from the population. They also mobilize communities for us.
e. Drama groups. These have human resource. We give them the themes, facilitate them and they through drama and music sensitize communities.
f. Schools- By working with administrators of the schools we are able to access the children and youth in schools with IHIV and AIDS services including information for prevention of HIV.
g. Line NGOs. We network and partner with NGOs in the respective districts to extend services to the people.
Yeah, what my friends said above is right and i agree with what they said which is no body/organization cares about the poor; things are not out there when you really need them. Those great men and women who really care to bring about change for the needy ones deserve award though nobody has ever considered them for one, its OK. There will come a time….
