French Embassy’s Civil Society Development Fund for NGOs

The Embassy of France is seeking proposals from NGOs in South Africa for the promotion of democracy and good governance in the country. The Fund aims to build the capacities of the NGOs so that they can address the interests of the marginalized communities, carry out advocacy for the implementation of effective public policies and also ensure accountability of the local governments towards citizens. The proposed project should enable NGOs to actively engage with local authorigies an dlocal communities to address issues related to basic services, human rights (including women’s and children’s rights) and social coesion. The French Embassy strongly encourages synergy and partnerships with other international agencies including the UN and preferably would grant funding to projects that are co-financed by them. The average grant per project is around €65,000. The closing date to apply for the funding is 31 August 2009. Applications can be submitted by email or at the embassy office in South Africa.
