International Scholarship Programme for AIDS 2010

The XVIII International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2010) will be held from 18 to 23 July 2010 in Vienna, Austria and it will be attended by “those working in the field of HIV, as well as policy makers, persons living with HIV and other individuals committed to ending the pandemic.” The conference is an opportunity for participants to share information, evaluate new scientific developments and lessons learnt and also plan a new course forward. “Given the 2010 deadline for universal access set by world leaders, AIDS 2010 will coincide with a major push for expanded access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support. With a global economic crisis threatening to undermine public investments, the conference will help keep HIV on the front burner, and is a chance to demonstrate the importance of continued HIV investments to broader health and development goals.”

In order to ensure participation of NGOs, activists, researchers, community leaders and others from resource-limited settings and communities, the conference organizers are providing the International Scholarship Programme. Anyone in any part of the world working or volunteering in the field of HIV and AIDS can apply for it.

The International Scholarship Programme, administered by the International AIDS Society will provide the financial assistance to people from different backgrounds to participate in the conference. The financial assistance includes “registration to the conference (includes access to all sessions and exhibitions); economy-class travel (pre-paid ticket at the lowest fare available); accommodation (shared in hotel twin rooms for the days of the conference); modest living allowance for the conference duration (18-23 July 2010, the equivalent of EUR 30 per day); travel insurance for the duration of the conference.”

There is online application form for applicants to fill and submit it. A letter of recommendation from the organization must be submitted to the organizers. The deadline to submit applications is 10 February 2010. For more information, visit this link.
