Tourism Cares 2011 Worldwide Grant Program

Tourism Cares provides funding to worthy nonprofit, tax exempt organizations for the purposes of conservation, preservation, restoration, or education at tourism-related sites of exceptional cultural, historic, or natural significance around the world.

It is now accepting applications for its 2011 Worldwide Grant Program. Tourism Cares will give two groups of six Worldwide Grants at $10,000 each for an annual total of $120,000.

Worldwide Grant Application Steps:

1) On-line Application including proof of nonprofit, tax-exempt status, Letter of Inquiry, and Project Budget and Explanatory Narrative

2) Full Proposal (by invitation)

3) Grantee Selection and Award

4) Final Report Submission (within 12 months of date of grant award)

In 2011, the Worldwide Grant Application process will take place on-line only. The on-line application will become available early February, 2011. Paper applications sent in by snail mail or fax, electronic attachments to e-mail, or items submitted under separate cover will not be considered.

Required Eligibility Criteria:

The organization requesting grant funding must be located:

  • in the United States, and be classified as a bona fide non-profit, tax-exempt, 501 (c) (3), public charity by the Internal Revenue Service, or
  • outside the United States, and be classified by the country’s official taxing authority as a non-profit, tax exempt organization

Note: Applications from organizations working with, or in, developing countries are welcome.

The site the organization is requesting grant funding for must be:

a tourism-related site with actual visitation (not projected future visitation). Funding requests for new sites that have never been open to the public will not be considered.

Application Deadlines:

  • Tuesday, March 1, 2011, 5 pm Eastern time
  • Friday, July 1, 2011, 5 pm Eastern time

Conserveuganda is a local community based organisation in Katakwi District in Uganda championing biodiveristy conservation around L.opeta-Bisina Ramsar sites for Environmental health and community wealth. We promote Eco-tourism especially Bird watching,this sites harbour over 160 different bird species including the endangered shoebill and endemic fox’s weaver.Wea lso promote cultural tourism and rock art heritage at Abela rock in Katakwi District.Any support tothis programmes is welcome.

    I am Misran Lubis from PKPA, a non profit organization that concerned with creativities developing of chidlren and youth. Since 2005, PKPA works in Nias Island, North Sumatera, Indonesia. Nias Island had Tsunami and Earthquake disaster at that time.

    The island that surrounded by Indian Ocean has known as one of tourism-site in Indonesia. The tourists from many countries already know Nias as a good place for surfing because the big wave and beautiful beach view. Nias also still have interesting and unique culture and history, they have Megalithic Culture and Traditional art that not common with other areas in Indonesia.

    But, because of the isolation and backwardness of the local community in education, information, and economic, many culture and history inheritance that almost extincted. PKPA Nias as a local organization that worked in Nias for more than 5 years, interested to develop the program in local culture conservation through youth creativities. We are very interested to access the funding from 2011 Tourism Cares. We want to access more information about online application.

  3. we (FADCOD) are also dealing in environment related issues in Kumi District (Uganda.we are in dire need of development partners in this struggle otherwise the situation is threatening to go out of hand since the rate at which trees are being cut is very high and the drought is also taking its toll on the community, livestock and plantations.

    We are trying to conserve tophill wetland named Rajarani Lake which are culturally and naturally importance where more than 5 endangered orchid are available. We are trying to conserve the place through one school one heritage site for tourism promotion in the areas.
