Travel grants for the representatives of indigenous organizations and communities to participate in the deliberations of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has the UN Voluntary Fund for Indigenous Populations to provide travel grants for representatives of indigenous organizations and communities to participate in the deliberations of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (PF) and/or the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP). Travel grant applications are being accepted by the Fund for PF and EMRIP meetings to be held in 2011.

The UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues is an advisory body to the Economic and Social Council, with a mandate to discuss indigenous issues related to economic and social development, culture, the environment, education, health and human rights. The Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples is a new United Nations mechanism on the rights of indigenous peoples. This mechanism has been created by the Human Rights Council following an informal meeting on the most appropriate mechanisms to continue the work of the Working Group on Indigenous Populations.

The deadline to apply for the travel grant is 1 October 2010. The applications form 2011 can be downloaded from this link.
