The UNESCO/Bilbao Prize was established in 2008 with the generous endowment from the City of Bilbao in Spain. It is awarded annually by the Director-General of UNESCO to innovative institutions, organizations and individuals serving to promote a culture of human rights at regional and international levels. The Prize comprises of a monetary award, a diploma and a trophy.
Member States in consultation with their National Commissions and NGOs maintaining formal relations with UNESCO working in the field of human rights can nominate candidates for this second edition of the UNESCO/Bilbao Prize for the Promotion of a Culture of Human Rights.
