George is an experience leader in youth leadership and management. Mr. Onyango has worked with various youth organizations in Nairobi, some of which he helped found. He has trained youth in leadership and management skills, and as well supported institutions helping AIDS orphaned children in Kenya. Mr. Onyango is the Deputing Director of Slums Information Development & Resource Centres (SIDAREC), an organization he helped found together with other young people living in the slums of Nairobi-Kenya. He is also the Coordinator of Africamix-Kenya, an organization dedicated to rescuing children who are abused and neglected in Kenya. At SIDAREC, George is involved with staff/ program developments, training, monitoring and evaluation, and fundraising. He was an advisory board member of an international think tank organization called The Center for Global and Sustainable Initiatives, an organization that promotes the principles of individual and collective responsibility towards social, economic and political justice.
Mr. Onyango holds a certificate in Nonprofit Management from Johns Hopkins University, Institute for Policy Studies, Center for Civil Society Studies, specializes in Managing Nonprofit Organizations, Evaluation and Monitoring, and Strategic Planning. He also holds Diploma in Computer Science at the Kenya School of Professional Studies. George is a member of various organizations dealing with HIV/AIDS. He is one of the Key Correspondent Team writers with Health and Development Network and currently undertaking a course in journalism. He reported for the Health and Development Network at the 13th International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa held in September 2003 in Kenya and 4th International Conference on AIDS India, November 2003. Between August 9th-13th 2006, Mr. Onyango presented at the Envisioning the Future Symposium in Canada on the effect of HIV/AIDS on children living in the slums of Nairobi-Kenya. Apart from this George has attended various ICT Conferences as one of the ways to equip community living in the slums with technological-know-how.
