African Program for Onchocerciasis Control (APOC)

The African Program for Onchocerciasis Control (APOC) of the World Bank works towards controlling onchocerciasis (river blindness). The Program supports distribution of ivermectin in the sub-Saharan countries of Africa. APOC strives to control the disease in the poor and remote areas of the African countries. It also provides support for carrying research work. NGO can be part of this Program and seek support for implementing projects in this area. However, project proposals need to be submitted through the health ministry of the local country. More information on this Fund is available at this link.

The Population and Reproductive Health Capacity Building Program is another World Bank grant for NGOs under its Health, Nutrition and Population category. International and regional NGOs can directly apply for this fund. However, they need to collaborate with grassroots organizations in local countries to fulfill the eligibility criteria. The primary goal of the Program is to build the capacities of local NGOs in delivering community-based services in population and reproductive health. Intermediary organizations should demonstrate their technical expertise in the field and work as critical catalysts in building the capacities of local NGOs. In order to apply for this Program, organizations should contact the Human Development Network, Health, Nutrition and Population Department at the World Bank for information on how to participate. The official link to this information is here.
