Preston Fund for Girls' Education

The Preston Fund for Girls’ Education provides funding support to NGOs that work on girlseducation. The Fund was established in the memory of Lewis Preston, one of the former presidents of the World Bank and is supported by other donors including the World Bank, J.P. Morgan & Co. and the Dutch Government. There are specific activities to which the Fund provides the support: these activities include building primary girls’ schools; paying the salaries of teachers and other staff in the school; providing school fees such as administrative expenses etc; purchasing uniforms for girl students; organizing libraries and reading room facilities in girls’ schools; supporting school infrastructure in terms of classroom furniture and laboratory equipment; provision of coaching and career counseling for girls and enhancing public awareness about the importance of girls’ education in the community.

NGOs as well as schools and other community-based organizations can apply for this Fund. However, it is important that the applicant organizations have a good track record of working on the issue of girls’ education and their mission statement and organizational objectives should reflect their emphasis upon provision of education to girls.

Preston Fund for Girls’ Education is actually managed by the Global Fund for Women, though supported by the World Bank. NGOs interested in applying for the Fund should visit the website of the Global Fund for Women. To know more about the Global Fund for Women, visit this link.

Detailed project proposals, outlining the objectives and the strategy along with the project budget need to be developed by the applying organizations. These proposals have to be submitted directly to the Global Fund for Women.
