The US Department of Labor (DOL) has given a grant of US $4.25 million to World Education for a period of three years to provide education and training in Nepal to achieve the goal of ending child labor. The project is part of the larger grant offered by the Department in over 19 countries around the world. It targets to withdraw some 8,000 children from child labor and prevent another 7,000 vulnerable children from exploitation. The project also has a policy component where World Education will work with the government to strengthen policies, build awareness on the importance of education for children and also undertake research and documentation of the child labor status in the country. The project has been named as “Naya Bato, Naya Paila” which means New Path, New Steps.
