The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Scholarship Programme is an opportunity to gain an understanding on the management of climate change in developing countries. The programme provides opportunities for young scientists from developing countries to undertake studies that would not be possible without the intervention of the Fund.
Applications are invited from students researching topics from priority regions such as the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The 2012 applications should focus on one of the following fields of study:
- Socio-economic modeling related to climate change
- Underlying science of climate change
- Climate change and water
The following types of applicants can apply for this programme:
- Post-Graduate students at PhD level, accepted at a recognized educational institution to start studies in 2013, or currently enrolled on continuing PhD courses
- Applicants must be younger than 30 years of age at the time of application
- Applicants must be nationals of developing countries
Selected candidates will get a scholarship award accorded for a period of one year, renewable once. The award, and its possible renewal, is subject to satisfactory progress during the period of study. Term reports, signed by the research supervisor, will be expected to be submitted to the IPCC Scholarship Programme by the students. All students will be required to submit a final report.
Applicants have to give a detailed estimate budget in their application form and any scholarship award request should not exceed a maximum amount of USD 20,000 per year.
