Component 1: Sustainably raising agricultural productivity and promoting effective market linkages
The global objective of this Call for Proposals is to contribute to the achievement of MDG1 by improving the food security and nutrition of the poorest and most vulnerable in South and South-East Asia.
The specific objective (s) of this Call for Proposals is/are: to improve the food security and nutrition of smallholder households by introducing and facilitating the adoption of productive and environmentally sustainable agricultural technologies which improve beneficiaries’ livelihoods; and to contribute to creating/improving market linkages to improve food and nutritional security of both rural producers and urban consumers in S and SE Asia.
In order to achieve these objectives, the programme will use a two-pronged approach. This is reflected in the two main Components of the programme:
Component 1: Sustainably raising agricultural productivity and promoting effective market linkages
Component 2: South-South dialogue and intra-regional learning
The Component 1 will target increasing productivity of beneficiaries, improving market linkages and strengthening grass roots institutions, while the Component 2 will focus on strengthening South-South dialogue and intra-regional learning to improve access to technology.
This Call for Proposals addresses the activities under the Component 1.
The three inter-linked priorities of the Component 1 are related to the three expected results:
- Access to environmentally sustainable technology leading to increased productivity
- Market linkages and
- Institutional development
