USAID/Georgia is seeking applications for Assistance Agreements for funding to support a program entitled “Advancing National Integration (ANI)” Project in Georgia. The goal of the program is to strengthen civic integration in Georgia, particularly among ethnic minorities. The program will increase civic activism among youth, expand knowledge and practice about diversity and its management, and spread information and build horizontal ties across Georgia. The project will also support broader dissemination of program activities and diversity management through the media.
Goal
The program’s overall goal is to strengthen civic integration in Georgia, particularly among ethnic minorities. The levels of engagement required to achieve near-complete civic integration are beyond the scope of this, and any, project. This goal will take many years of sustained efforts by many actors. However, this multi-dimensional project can play a strategically important role in strengthening this process by influencing behaviors, attitudes, and issues through different activities.
The program will increase civic activism among youth, expand knowledge and practice about diversity and its management, and spread information and build horizontal ties across Georgia. The main targets will be older secondary-school students (grades 11 – 12), youth that leave school after grade 10, and recent secondary school graduates. In addition, the project will support the monitoring of government by minority organizations and a rapid problem-solving mechanism for issues of diversity. The project will also support broader dissemination of program activities and diversity management through the media.
Objectives
The three objectives of the program are:
1. Develop civic integration among young people across Georgia through practice and participation across ethnic and geographic boundaries.
2. Increase public awareness and education on diversity through the media.
3. Support mechanisms for interaction between the Government and ethnic minorities.
Working towards these objectives will help change practices, change mindsets, and contribute to the management of problems in Georgia.
