The Zakheni Arts Therapy Foundation is a NGO that gets its funds from National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund and works for South African communities using creative arts therapies as the medium of the service. The foundation started working for the communities about nine years ago. Presently, the foundation is implementing different projects associated with welfare of children in vulnerable sectors.
Objectives of Zakheni Arts Therapy Foundation
– Provide psychological and emotional support to children, adolescents and adults through the medium of the Creative Arts Therapies
– Partner with likeminded organizations to develop their capacity to provide effective, child appropriate psychosocial support Programs
– Provide community creative arts psycho-social support services
– Enhance and support the well-being of Care Workers and Health Professionals
About the Workshops
Zakheni Arts Therapy Foundation will conduct a series of three-day FireMaker Skills Development Workshops for Child and Youth Careworkers spanning over a year, in Cape Town. These workshops are specifically designed to deepen the psychosocial support capacity of childcare workers. The course will focus on experiential learning and equips participants with creative techniques in psychosocial support. Various activities such as puppet making, storytelling, art and clay activities are explored, as well as basic theory relating to child development and resilience building.
Organisations in the Western Cape, Gauteng and Limpopo are encouraged to tender for this 2011/2012 Wellbeing and FireMaker Workshops.
The FireMaker Project
The FireMaker Project course, including workshops, supervision and mentoring for child care workers, focuses on experiential learning and equips participants with techniques like puppet making, story telling, art and clay activities as well as exploring basic child development theory. The FireMaker workshops have been conducted in a number of regions including the Eastern and Southern Africa Region, South America and the Middle East.
