Founded in 2007, the Al Gore Sustainable Technology Venture Competition is the most prestigious sustainable/clean technology business plan competition of Asia. This competition was planned by Oopali Operajita, CEO, Cicero. The first competition was held in November 2007 and proposals are invited for the 2011 Al Gore Sustainable Technology Venture CompetitionTM India.
IIT Madras will host the competition in Chennai from September 22 ─ 25, 2011. This year partners for the competition will be Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) of Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, The Indus Entrepreneurs, (TiE), the CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and The Indo-German Centre for Sustainability at IIT Madras.
The 2011 competition follows the third official Al Gore Sustainable Technology Venture Competition™ at IIT Madras September 30 – October 3, 2010, which generated great success stories. Seven leading CEOs and MDs, of major venture capital firms, and from industry, judged the competition. Team Nairao Inventions (Sastra University, Thanjavur) took first prize, for a new means of capturing carbon from industrial exhaust to create relatively inexpensive industry-grade Carbon Nanotubes (CNT).
