The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) is holding an Open Innovation Competition that is a part of the ITU Telecom World meeting scheduled to be held in Geneva from 24-27 October this year. In this context, entries in the form of seed ideas are being invited for two separate categories from young innovators (people under 25) and other geeks and techies working with NGOs and nonprofits, offering them the opportunity to win prize and get the seed funding.
The idea may exploit social networks, data visualization/distribution, bespoke integrated campaigns, SMS notifications etc.
Seed ideas should be realistic, achievable and relevant to the UN’s Millennium Development Goals:
- alleviating poverty and hunger (including smart agriculture)
- improving education for all
- addressing gender inequality
- access to health care
- environmental sustainability
- ….or addressing universal accessibility challenges?
CALLING ALL GEEKS AND NOT FOR PROFITS
This project is designed to show how connected technologies can help Not for Profit organizations (NFPs) to achieve their aims in a more time and cost effective way. Talent selected on the basis of submitted ideas will be invited to attend a workshop during ITU Telecom World 2011 where they will work closely with the partner NFP to ensure the developed solution is fit for purpose.
Project aims at helping NFPs
- Achieve their aims more effectively
- Connect with communities better
- Find the resource they need to support their project
If your idea needs resources to turn seed idea into reality, you have the chance to do so by submitting your entry to the competition.
YOUNG INNOVATORS
If you are 18-25 years old, digital entrepreneurs bursting with ideas and want to use your knowledge and skills to make the world a better place, and you need resources so you can turn your seed idea into reality, then this can be your best chance to win a prize of 8,500 CHF. Moreover, you can also get a chance to pitch the world leaders for seed funding to realize the project.
NB: The competition is actively seeking female, unemployed and disabled talent
Entries will be judged on innovation, feasibility (technically/cost) and applicant experience (ability to deliver).
