USAID’s Center of Excellence in Democracy, Human Rights and Governance (DRG Center) seeks applications from qualified persons interested in a renewable one-year appointment as a Democracy Fellow in the Special Programs to Address the Needs of Survivors (SPANS) team. The program is funded by the USAID Office of Democracy and Governance in the Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance (DCHA/DG).
Purpose
The Democracy Fellow will contribute to the management and oversight of programs supported by the disability fund and assist in promoting inclusive development not only in USAID’s DRG programs, but also contribute to larger efforts spearheaded by USAID’s Disability and Inclusive Development Coordinator. The Democracy Fellow will be an active participant in efforts to create communities of practice of USAID DRG experts in Washington and field missions and efforts to establish the DRG Center as a learning organization.
Eligibility Requirements
- US citizenship is required.
- An advanced degree in disability, human rights or a related field, with demonstrated competence in inclusive development practices;
- Substantive knowledge in at least one disability related area;
- Excellent English writing skills are required;
- Knowledge of donor assisted efforts to promote improvements in human rights and/or inclusive development;
- Supplementary language skills are desirable.
Location
The incumbent will be based within the SPANS team at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington DC. Some international travel will be required.
Duration of the position
Initial appointment is for one year, with possibility of renewal for up to four years. Priority will be given to candidates who can commit to a minimum of two one-year appointments, subject to annual satisfactory performance evaluation.
Application procedure and timeframe
Applications are accepted and processed on a continuing basis. The applicants are notified about the acceptance into the DFP’s pool of eligible candidates within one month of receiving the completed application. Applications are considered active for approximately one calendar year from their date of receipt.
