Nominations are invited for the 2011 ARRL International Humanitarian Award. All amateurs, who have used Amateur Radio as a medium to work for human welfare, and promote international understanding and peace, can send in their nominations. This is an annual prize, initiated by ARRL, to recognize the radio amateurs who have helped others in the time of crisis, through ham radio. The winner of the ARRL International Humanitarian Award receives an engraved plaque and a profile in QST and other ARRL venues.
Amateur Radio is a telecommunication service that helps to connect people of different countries, thereby promoting the feeling of harmony and understanding, throughout the world. The award is an attempt to honor the amateurs, who have provided service to their fellow human beings, and also to recognize the importance of Amateur Radio Service with regards to international communication.
In order to be eligible for nomination, the nominee should send a summary of his humanitarian actions that make him eligible for the award, along with testimonials from two people, who have first-hand knowledge of these actions. The testimonials or references may be from an official of a group, like the American Red Cross, The Salvation Army that was a beneficiary. Names and addresses of all references should be clearly written in the nomination.
The President of the League sets up a committee that recommends the names of the award recipients to the ARRL Board. The call for nominations is made by the committee to Amateur Radio, governmental or other organizations that have received some outstanding service by an Amateur Radio operator or group.
The 2010 ARRL International Humanitarian Award was won by Ron Tomo, KE2UK, of North Bellmore, New York, who rendered outstanding communication support in times of crisis and disaster.
All nominations for the 2011 ARRL International Humanitarian Award must be submitted in writing in English to ARRL International Humanitarian Award, 225 Main St, Newington, CT 06111 USA. The last date to submit the nominations is December 31, 2011.
