Applications are invited from Indian residents for Hilla Ginwala Scholarships that are being awarded in partnership with the Clarendon Fund, this year.
Mr Peston Padamji Ginwala initiated the Hilla Ginwala Scholarship in memory of his wife, Mrs Hilla Ginwala , who was passionate about learning. Mr Ginwala was a renowned Indian barrister who studied at Balliol from 1937 to 1939. He set up the scholarship to help Indian students.
To be eligible, the applicant should be a resident of India. He/she should be applying to start any new full-time graduate course, except PGCert and PGDip courses, at the Oxford University.
The scholarship is available for all subjects; however, preference will be given to modern languages, i.e. French or Italian. Those candidates who have been selected for a Clarendon Scholarship are eligible to apply this year, as the scholarship is being made available in collaboration with the Clarendon Fund.
The Hilla Ginwala Scholarship will provide a fund amounting to £10,000 annually, towards living expenses. This year, the joint Clarendon – Hilla Ginwala award will cover the cost of tuition fees and college fees, along with living expenses.
Awards are made for the full duration of a student’s fee liability for the agreed course. However, every year the scholarships will have to undergo a renewal process, and it will be continued only if the academic performance of the candidate is satisfactory.
The last date to receive applications is 6 January, 2012 for Medical Sciences and Philosophy, and 20 January, 2012 for all other subjects. Moreover, it is mandatory for the candidates to have secured admission in their chosen program of study by the expected final decision date, which is 17 March, 2012.
