Introduction

In these challenging times, NGO managers and fundraisers are under more pressure than ever to diversify their funding sources. While sources of funding are numerous, identifying viable prospects, and navigating the complexities of applying can be extremely challenging.  As a consequence numerous sources are overlooked and NGOs get often discouraged by the complexity of donor’s systems ending up with not even applying for those funds.

While managers of NGOs may accurately realize the importance of fundraising, without thorough knowledge of the donors’ landscape they waste valuable time and money figuring out how the system works. Increased understanding of these different avenues however, can increase the efficiency and effectiveness of fundraising campaigns. This interactive web-based seminar aims to inform managers and fundraisers on types of funding available to them through an introduction to US Foundations.

Objectives

After the course participants will:

• Be able to better understand how different types US foundations operate
• Understand their priorities in the developing and external relations field
• Know what information is relevant and where to find it
• Have the knowledge to make informed decisions on whether those donors are relevant to your organization or not
• Understand whether you can apply for funds and if so, how to do it

Course Program

Participants

This course is ideally suited to fundraisers who want to build their fundraising capacity, executive directors/NGO managers who are responsible for donor relations, and, individuals who want to develop their professional skills and effectiveness.

Training Methodology

The course will be delivered through a webinar. A webinar is a web-based seminar where the training will be offered entirely through the internet. Registered participants will be get invitations to visit the webinar website, where they can attend the course program. Participants from any part of the world can attend it. Even if you miss attending the live webinar, there will always be an option for you to watch the recording webinar on your computer and access the related materials.

This webinar, or web-based seminar, training program gives you the information you need to fundraise for your NGO effectively in a convenient, inexpensive and yet interactive way.

The course will consist of a 60 minute presentation where you will see the slides and hear the trainer, followed by a 30 minute Q&A session during which your questions will be answered by the trainer in real time.

This course is supported by extensive additional materials for participants to use after the course, including access to the webinar presentation, webinar slides, and training materials. Registrants who have difficulty in attending the ‘live’ webinar can watch the recorded webinar at their convenience.

About the trainers

Erik Detiger is the Managing Director of Philantropia, Inc and as an independent consultant and trainer has over a decade of experience working in the field of international philanthropy and fundraising. A highly successful international project manager and fundraising professional, Erik has raised over US $150 million in the non-profit field for numerous international projects from a wide variety of government agencies, foundations, and institutions. He has been successful in raising funds from a range of international institutional donors. Being of Dutch nationality and based in the States he counts with a wealth of knowledge on both US and European donors.

Meghan Arakelian is a Program Associate at Philantropia, Inc and is an experienced international fundraiser and researcher. She is especially skilled in conducting prospect research of international institutional donors. She has helped organize and led components of fundraising trainings in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America.
