The Delegation of the European Union to Nigeria has issued an open call seeking proposals for projects that would help in strengthening the civil society to promote human rights and democratic reforms in Nigeria. This call for proposals also aims to encourage building consensus on disputed or controversial areas of policy in Nigeria and enhance respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms in the country.
Global Objectives of the Call for Proposals
Strengthening the role of civil society in promoting human rights and democratic reform, in facilitating the peaceful conciliation of group interests and in consolidating political participation and representation.
Specific Objective of the Call for Proposals
- Pursuit of common agendas for human rights and democratic reform
- Building towards consensus on disputed or controversial areas of policy
Priority Issues
- Children and young people’s rights
- Actions that support the implementation of the Child Rights Act at state level.
- Actions in support of the reform of the system of juvenile justice administration in Nigeria.
- Actions that aim at addressing child trafficking.
- Women’s rights
- Actions that support the implementation of the Convention on All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
- Actions that target trafficking in women.
- Death penalty
- Actions that aim at the abolition of death penalty.
- Torture and ill treatment
- Actions that target the prevention of torture and ill-treatment by state agencies, including extra-judicial killings even where this is not as a result of torture or ill-treatment.
- Actions that aim at conflict prevention and/or resolution, especially in Nigerian societies deeply divided by religious and ethnic issues, by means of civil society dialogues which seek to bridge societal divides and which bring together a wide range of stakeholders to share experience and analyze common problems.
- Actions that contribute to the peace process in the Niger-Delta region of Nigeria.
Note:
This is an open Call for Proposals, where all documents are submitted at one stage (concept note and full application). However, in the first instance, only the concept notes will be evaluated. Thereafter, for the applicants whose concept notes have been pre-selected, evaluation of the full application will be carried out.
