Potential applicants are invited to attend the research forum: “Using Electronic Health Records to Advance Research on Quality and Outcomes” to be held January 31, 2012 from 8 am at the UC Davis M.I.N.D. Institute.
These proposals are invited in response to using electronic health records (EHR) to advance research on quality and outcomes to be organized during the 2012-2013 academic year. The UC Davis Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC) in association with the Center for Healthcare Policy and Research (CHPR) invite proposals for this year.
These awards support innovative research using the UC Davis EHR either alone or in combination with other electronic databases. The emphasis research must be on quality of care and/or clinically meaningful outcomes (including mortality, morbidity, and quality of life). The review process for these pilot project submissions will emphasize innovation, feasibility, clinical relevance and potential for future extramural funding. Different areas of interest include but are not limited to development of innovative process or outcomes-based measures of quality, assessment of process-outcomes links and comparative effectiveness of interventions to improve healthcare quality. This program is not meant to support research comparing specific treatments (e.g., drug A versus drug B).
Funds will be available for up to $20,000 in total costs for a 12-month period beginning March 1, 2012. Support may be provided for supplies and other research-related expenses; funds may not be used to purchase equipment. P.I. (and other faculty) salary support is not permissible. The proposal must include at least one trainee at the predoctoral (undergraduate or graduate students) or postdoctoral/clinical fellow level and the role of the trainee in the project must be very clearly defined with a mentoring plan.
The UC Davis CTSC offers an academic home for clinical and translational research and aimed at speeding improvements in human health by reducing barriers in health-relevant research. The main aim of the CTSC Pilot Translational and Clinical Studies Program is to increase and augment research areas crucial to translational research by offering support for novel research projects, the development of new teams and partnerships, high risk/high impact research, and proposals that include trainees. CHPR facilitates research in health policy, healthcare delivery, quality and comparative effectiveness. Submissions are invited in response to this call for applications which must address use of the EHR to understand, evaluate, or improve clinical quality of care.
Please submit the proposal electronically (via electronic mail) by 5 pm on February 24, 2012.
