Calls for applications are invited by The GBIF Secretariat seeking support to organize regional training activities in 2012. GBIF Participants are invited to apply for financial support of around 5000 EUR per event to be used exclusively to enable regional participation in their events, by representatives of GBIF Participants from the region.
Support provided is intended to facilitate the GBIF regionalization strategy which invites participation to collaborate on joint activities. This strategy enables active participation of node managers more actively in GBIF and enhances the identification of common needs, priorities and opportunities based on similarities and existing regional collaboration processes.
Among the training events supported in 2011 were a training workshop on species catalogues for Latin America, hosted by GBIF Spain and the Latin American Platform for Biodiversity Information (PIIB) in Uruguay and a training workshop on biological georeferencing by the South African Biodiversity Information Facility organized for African nodes.
GBIF Participants interested in organizing a training event with a regional component must contact potential partners in their region beforehand and agree on possible dates, venue and host institution.
Applications may be sent by 24 February 2012.
