Nielson Energy Fellowship for Women, Minorities is available at UW. An undergraduate fellowship is designed to promote recruitment of talented women and minority students planning careers in the energy sector, is available through the University of Wyoming School of Energy Resources (SER) for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Students in energy resource management and development (formerly energy resource science); energy systems engineering, petroleum engineering, chemical engineering, geology and geophysics, chemistry and physics are eligible to apply. Five awards of $4,500 each will be given.
Fellowships, from a donation by the Nielson family of Cody, provide students an opportunity to work in energy-related projects with faculty mentors, graduate students and energy sector companies. New students graduating from high school or transferring from community colleges or other universities are eligible for the fellowship. Each student will be matched with a faculty member and a joint research project will be designed including goals, expectations, responsibilities, methodology and projected outcomes upon selection.
Nielson Fellows will participate in the spring Energy Research and Development Symposium, and will present synopses of their research projects, including significance, results and potential contributions to the energy sector. Recipients also are expected to attend the annual SER awards banquet.
