fundsforngos.org is pleased to announce the two winners of the US$500 Small Grant Prize as well as the ten runners up. Thousands of entries were received from across the world and the winners were selected by random drawing on 7 April 2012.

Winners of the Small Grant Prize (2)
1. The Gisma Group (Gisma), Nairobi, Kenya
The Gisma Group is a group of young Kenyans who came together with a vision to change, develop and sustain our communities by motivating and building hope with a view to improving values and aspirations of individuals and therefore uplifting both individuals and society.
Gisma Group takes every opportunity to let citizens know that each person has a moral and ethical role to impact positively, within their own sphere of influence and in their own way.
Footprints Africa Foundation was established by Julie and Anthony Gichuru, with a view to assisting young people in Africa to make a footprint, to leave a positive legacy. Julie Gichuru is an accomplished TV personality and Anthony Gichuru is a proven entrepreneur. The Foundation has supported and assisted the Gisma Group in its efforts and Julie Gichuru is an Ambassador of the Natembea Campaign.
Natembea Campaign is a project about focused on raising awareness of the importance of footwear and good hygiene practices. Most children grow up barefoot oblivious of the dangers around them. Shoes are essential as they protect the feet from cuts, sores and infections, and they are also important as they provide human dignity.
The Natembea Campaign 2010 was a major success where Gisma Group delivered and distributed 1,000 pairs of shoes at Kyaume School in Tala, Maji Mazuri Childrens Centre in Kasarani, and Watoto Wema Childrens Home in Kayole and in 2011 we delivered 2,000 pairs of shoes in Kisumu County- Ahero among four schools; Ombaka Primary School, Nyomwaro Primary School, Kasuna Primay School and Bunde Primary School and also visited Brydges Centre Children Home in kitengela where we took 100 pairs of shoes to children during Christmas.
This was made possible through the very effective partnerships with Footprints Africa Foundation and other stake holders.
2. Inter Africa Network for Women, Media, Gender and Development/Le Réseau Inter Africain Des Femmes, Médias, Genre et Développement. (FAMEDEV), Dakar, Senegal
The Inter-African Network for Women, Media, Gender and Development (FAMEDEV) was founded in Dakar (Senegal) in 2000, as a follow-up to a regional conference held in Dakar at the end of 1999 and an Africa Regional Meeting held in Bamako, Mali in 2002 in preparation for the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS). FAMEDEV seeks to work towards:
Reinforcing and sustaining the promotion and development of African women journalists and communicators:
Supporting and encouraging the use of quality gender friendly media and communication tools, promoting press freedom, freedom of expression and hence make African women in different sectors of development more visible.
FAMEDEV seeks to achieve these objectives through training, capacity building, partnerships strengthening and development of resources and an effective networking system.
