The purpose of the Allied Healthcare Scholarship Program (AHSP) is to encourage allied healthcare professionals.
Main aim of Allied Healthcare Scholarship Program (AHSP) is as follows:
- Practice direct patient care in a medically underserved are (MUA) of California; increase the number of trained allied
- Healthcare professionals; and encourage underrepresented groups to pursue an allied healthcare profession. If awarded,
- The applicant agrees to provide direct patient care on a full time basis in a designated shortage area for a minimum of one
Applications for the AHSP are accepted annually and awards up to $4,000. Scholarships are intended to pay tuition, required fees, books, supplies, and educational equipment costs related to the applicant’s registered nurse education.
The AHSP is administered by the Health Professions Education Foundation (Foundation) and is funded by a grant from “The California Wellness Foundation”. All awards are subject to the availability of funding. Allied healthcare professionals practicing in medically underserved areas improve access to healthcare in rural and urban areas of California.
AM I ELIGIBLE?
To be eligible for the AHSP, the applicant must:
• Be currently accepted or enrolled in an in one of the following allied healthcare programs:
- Clinical Laboratory Science,
- Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Medical Assistant, Medical Imaging, Medical Laboratory Technology, Nuclear Medicine
- Technology, Occupational Therapy/Assistant, Pharmacy, Pharmacy Technician, Physical Therapy/Assistant, Radiation
- Therapy Technology, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Care, Social Work, Speech Therapy, Surgical Technician, and
- Ultrasound Technician. Other programs will also be considered; however, these are the priority programs.
• Be free from any other service obligation
• Have valid legal presence and ability to work and provide care in the state of California
• Graduate after January 31, 2013
• Be willing to work in a medically underserved area for one year or complete 100 volunteer hours.
• Submit a complete application that is postmarked on or before September 11, 2012
