Applications are announced for the 2013 Ashden International Awards. The Ashden Awards reward work which is delivering or enabling the delivery of sustainable energy while bringing health, education or livelihood benefits to the energy poor.
Our international winners are inspirational and innovative local sustainable energy schemes from Asia, Africa, Central and South America and the Caribbean which reduce carbon emissions and offer significant social and economic benefits to local communities. Businesses, not-for-profits, NGOs and social enterprises are all eligible to apply.
2013 Ashden International Awards look for:
- Products and services that are increasing energy access for households or businesses.
- Products and services that, through sustainable energy, are improving health and education services or preventing health problems.
- Uses of renewable energy or energy efficiency that significantly reduce deforestation in tropical rainforest areas.
- Organizations providing innovative financial mechanisms to access sustainable energy products and services, such as end-user finance, carbon finance or finance to micro entrepreneurs.
- Manufacturers who have developed and brought to market new products or fuel supplies that provide renewable electricity heat or clean cooking.
- Work that is building sustainable energy access into humanitarian aid and/or reconstruction programmes.
- Use of renewable energy or energy efficiency for agricultural purposes that is increasing or improving crop yields anywhere along the value chain.
Past international winners include fuel-efficient stove programmes; businesses selling solar home systems and lanterns; biogas schemes to replace fuel wood for heating and cooking; businesses producing biomass pellet from crop waste; and micro-hydro schemes.
Deadline: Applications must be received by Tuesday 23 October 2012.
