World Bank announces vacancy for the post of Program Assistant and is seeking applications from the deserving candidates. Strong English language skills (verbal and written) are required, including ability to draft a variety of correspondence and edit materials using proper grammar, punctuation. Job location is Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Provide assistance in the implementation of the Unit’s work program, some specialized support in a specific area(s), e.g. task management, procurement, database management, information technology, and editorial assistance, consultant processing, and printing of documents. Coordinate HR related work under guidance, hiring of consultants etc.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Bank’s external clients and other outside entities that we work closely, and closely coordinate with the Administrative and Client Support Group (ACS – Peer Group) of the Unit in Headquarters (HQ).
Identify and resolve diverse issues/problems as they arise, which often require interpretation of existing procedures and processes and independently determine appropriate application with an emphasis on procurement.
Suggest ways to enhance work organization and effectiveness.
Exercise quality enhancement function for project and other documents by ensuring adherence to Unit, VPU and institutional guidelines and assist team to maintain data on PRIMA and follow up with client on agreed actions.
Serve as an information resource on status of project/products (e.g. procurement, disbursement, audit, trust fund/co-financing, and legal issues) and draft a variety of standard project-related correspondences while also maintaining timely clearance and distribution.
Provide support to the projects to access and effectively use the Client Connection website for disbursement processing and accessing information and assist the CMU and Loans Department on disbursement related activities.
Qualifications and Experience :
Minimum Education: GCE Advanced level.
A Bachelor’s degree is an added qualification.
Minimum Years of Relevant Experience: 5 (internal candidates), 7 (external candidates) of responsible, relevant office support experience.
Ability to pass relevant World Bank Group tests (e.g. English language, computer applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Team Leadership – Able to provide support to team members, giving instructions when necessary to improve work performance and promote collaboration within team. Able to organize and/or conduct training for team members on procedures, policies and work activities.
Strong inter-personal skills and commitment to work in a team-oriented, multi-cultural environment.
Knowledge of and proficiency in advanced functions of standard Bank technology packages (in particular, SAP) is desired. Individual ability to identify, prevent and/or solve problems and also participate in change activities and initiatives. Demonstrated skills in retrieving, gathering and obtaining information from various sources (Internet, etc.) and pulling them together in a usable format.
