VLIR-UOS (Flemish InterUniversity Board – University Development Cooperation) offers funding for Road Safety in Low and Middle Income Countries: Challenges and Strategies for Improvement training program organized by Transportation Research Institute (IMOB) of Hasselt University.
During the ITP, 3 major topics will be dealt with-
- Behaviour
- Infrastructure and mobility
- Road safety policy
During the international training programme, participants will be acquainted with certain theories and methods and will be taught how to apply them. At the end of the course, participants will be able to formulate guidelines, recommendations and measures to policy-makers.
The following topics will be dealt with in the international road safety training programme-
- Road safety: introduction, analysis of the situation
- Traffic and travel behaviour: analyisen explanation
- Education and sensitisation (campaigns): behavioural influencing
- Infrastructure: road design
- Infrastructure: evaluation, implications
- Transport planning and transportation policy: Development in cities and in rural areas: impact on mobility and road safety
Eligibility & Criteria-
- Participants should have at least an academic master degree in e.g.
- behavioural sciences (sociology, psychology, …)
- Geography/Architecture/Spatial Planning
- Transportation and Traffic Planning
- Engineering: engineer, civil engineer, transportation engineer
- The participants are expected to have both a passive and active command of the English language at a reasonable level
- Applicants must be Minimum 24 years old
- This course is aimed at people who have acquired relevant experience in a research group or research institute, higher education institute, international organisation, government sector or Non-Governmental Organisation. Their job content should consist of preparatory work for policy-making or its implementation in the domain of road safety or research into related issues. The content of the participant’s job has to be related to the content of the international training programme
