The Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL) is accepting proposals form eligible organizations for Statements of Interest (SOI). The mission of this proposal is to support the bureau’s policy priorities for fostering democracy and human rights in Indonesia, Near East Regional and other.
DRL objectives is to allow and protect religious freedom for all citizens and non-citizens, including those of minority faiths and non-believers, which can be a means to reduce sectarian violence and improve social stability. Programs should empower civil society to urge governments to advocate and speak out for the rights of other religious communities as well as for non-believers. Program concepts should address the following areas-
- Indonesia – (approximately $400,000 available)- DRL is requesting a proposal for a program in Indonesia to work in areas experiencing religious tension.
- NEA Regional – (Approximately $750,000 available)- DRL will support a program to promote freedom of expression and association for majority and minority religious populations, focusing on youth and religious leaders.
- Tolerance/Anti-Semitism – (approximately $300,000 available) Contemporary forms of anti-Semitism include: the desecration of Jewish cemeteries, and defacement of synagogues and Holocaust monuments with anti-Semitic graffiti, stereotypic anti-Semitic depictions of Jews in cartoons and accusations of blood libel.
Requirements-
- Brief description of the organization, including the organization’s mission statement and previous work in the appropriate country/region. Due to page limitations, a general organizational history is not recommended. Information should clearly demonstrate an institution’s record and capacity and may include previous grant management experience, whether funded through private or United States Government resources.
- Description of how the project supports DRL’s policy priorities and how the project is innovative, sustainable, and does not duplicate current efforts.
- Project description, including project duration and objectives. Outputs and outcomes should also be provided. Outputs and outcomes should clearly link to project objectives and include target benchmarks.
- Brief statement on the methodology to be used in the project evaluation. Please see the materials related to monitoring and evaluation and Proposal Submission Instructions found on DRL’s website.
- An estimated budget figure. The budget should include intended: Primarily Headquarters-Based Costs, Primarily-Field Based Costs, Indirect Costs, and Cost-Share.
