The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), National Institute of Justice (NIJ) are accepting application for funding opportunity Research program on Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation of Elderly Individuals. The mission of this program is to Develop and analyze information and data having clear implications for criminal justice policy and practice to prevent, detect, and respond to abuse, neglect, and exploitation of elderly individuals and people who live in residential care facilities in the United States.
Priority research areas include-
- Identify and explore forensic markers of physical abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect among the elderly living in any setting.
- Perform rigorous evaluations of programs designed to prevent, deter, detect, investigate, prosecute, or otherwise respond to abuse, neglect, and exploitation of elderly individuals and people who live in residential care facilities. Projects that evaluate the efficacy of law enforcement or Adult Protective Services (APS) practices, elder fatality review teams, court-based programs, and multidisciplinary teams are especially encouraged.
- Increase understanding of financial exploitation, particularly: (1) risk and protective factors for financial fraud victimization and offending that could be targeted for prevention; (2) the consequences of financial abuse for older adults; and (3) the connection between financial exploitation and other forms of elder mistreatment.
Eligibility & Criteria-
NIJ is authorized to make grants to, or enter into contracts or cooperative agreements with, States (including territories), units of local government (including federally recognized Indian tribal governments as determined by the Secretary of the Interior), nonprofit and for-profit organizations (including tribal nonprofit and profit organizations), institutions of higher education (including tribal institutions of higher education), and certain qualified individuals. For-profit organizations must agree to forgo any profit or management fee. Foreign governments, foreign organizations, and foreign institutions of higher education are not eligible to apply.
