HISTORY / BACKGROUND
FOUSER-GHANA is a local, voluntary, non-profit, and development oriented Non- Governmental Organization established in 2007 with the distinctive purpose of empowering the vulnerable (women, children and the youth) to be better placed in society to enable them turn the most often challenging conditions under which they live (poverty, illiteracy, disease, corruption, bad governance etc) into opportunities for improve conditions for development and advancement.
FOUSER-GHANA work to educate, advocate, empower , build the capacity of the poor and the marginalized rural people to educate their children, prevent preventable diseases, actively participate in local governance and grass root democracy by regularly engaging government agents e.g. District Assemblies, local authorities, health agencies etc to demand and ensure accountability, equity and transparency in the distribution of public resources through social auditing, social responsibility and other forms of public government engagement.
The choice of Upper West Region for operation is informed on the fact that the region is amongst the least developed and most deprived in the country Ghana. The region is therefore dominated by high rate of illiteracy, disease, low access to quality education, high rural urban migration, adverse climatic condition, seasonal/permanent migration to mention but a few. FOUSER-GHANA therefore seeks to turn these most challenging conditions into potentials/opportunities for development hence making history of severe poverty and deprivation.
PURPOSE/ PREAMBLE
The purpose of FOUSER-GHANA is to better place the vulnerable by building their capacity (women, children and youth) to enable them turn challenges in their communities into opportunities in order to develop themselves hence reducing poverty, diseases, illiteracy, deprivation etc.
VISION
A society in which the individual (vulnerable person) is developed all-round to be self reliant in meeting his/her socio-politico-economic needs and aspirations.
MISSION
Targeting and empowering the vulnerable by making a difference in their situation through innovative strategies that build their capacity to better place them to be able to turn challenges in the often deprived environment in which they live into opportunities for development and advancement through advocacy, participation, gender sensitivity, support, right base approaches, partnerships, training, engagement, dialogue, entrepreneurship development and training etc.
