The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad is seeking applications from eligible organization for Iraq-U.S. Journalist Exchange Program. The purpose of this program is to focus on deepening the participants’ understanding of key policy initiatives in U.S.-Iraq relations, anti-corruption, accountability and transparency in government, and the role of the press in a democratic society. The program will be conducted in English, with consecutive Arabic translation.
The program should expose participants to America’s diversity both in the professional and social spheres, provide visits to at least three U.S. cities (including Washington, DC), and include the opportunity for dialogue and/or mentoring with professional American journalists, ideally with a background in international affairs. The total amount of funding for this one-year award will be up to $200,000, pending the availability of funds.
Areas Covered-
- Assess relations between the media, U.S. government officials, and policy opinion leaders
- Cultivate relationships among journalists from different ethnic, religious, and national groups, as well as from different media
- Promote mutual understanding between the people of the United States and Iraq
- Assist in the development of future leaders in Iraqi journalism who will share their knowledge and skills with their peers through positive action
Eligibility & Criteria-
- Be a U.S. non-profit organization meeting the provisions described in Internal Revenue Code section 26 USC 501 (c) (3); an internationally based non-profit organization; an academic institution; or another institution for which profit is not a primary motive
- Have demonstrated experience administering journalism exchange programs.
- Have the capacity to operate programs dealing with Iraq or have active partnerships with organization(s) operating in Iraq
