Applications are accepted for Economic Growth Integrated project for Private Sector Competitiveness under USAID. The mission of this program is to address the focal problem that people engaged in Timor-Leste’s agriculture sector are not benefiting from sustainable economic growth.
To promote resilience, climate change adaptation, and environmental sustainability of the program, a variety of approaches could be utilized to strengthen the horticulture value chain. These include rooftop rainwater harvesting and small-scale irrigation to enable cultivation during the dry season, composting to generate organic fertilizer, legume production and crop rotations/inter-cropping to improve soil quality, selection of drought and flood tolerant or adapted seed varieties, terracing, and integrated pest management and live fencing.
The proposed project will focus on the two major factors contributing to this problem-
- The inability of farmers to effectively utilize resources to engage in the private sector
- low productivity in the agriculture sector
