Jacob Robert Schramm (JRS) Biodiversity Foundation is inviting proposals for ‘Innovations in Informatics and Capacity Building’. The major objective of the grant program is to fund innovative projects on biodiversity or capacity building.
Innovations may be developed and proven elsewhere in the world that can be transferred or applied to work that relates to biodiversity information or to capacity building in Africa. The estimated budget for this call for proposals is about $ 750,000 on about 3‐6 grants. The total multi-year project budget may range from about $50,000 to about $250,000 depending upon the applicant’s goals.
Titles for Proposals –
- Transformative innovation in biodiversity informatics that integrate technical capacity building – projects focusing on (but not limited to) technological innovations such as handhelds, geo-referencing, imaging, genetic identification and other methods. The innovation may be scientific methods, technology, social change, integration of informatics as tools for assessments, or other approaches that may lead to long-term biodiversity information use that leads to conservation outcomes.
- Transformative innovations that build capacity in biodiversity informatics – focused on human capacity or methods and institutions that lead to human capacity building with strong biodiversity information outcomes. The methods will be (but not limited to) mentorship designs, skill building and assessments, peer-to-peer learning, financial incentives and awards, distance learning, or practice and learning networks.
Eligibility Criteria –
- Proposals must be submitted in English through online grant application portal.
- Applicants should have prior success of the principal investigator and grantee organization; potential to generate transformative change; linkages to specific conservation outcomes; leadership by or partnership with institutions in Africa; and specific methodologies, milestones and indicators to evaluate progress and success to qualify to apply.
