Center for Economic Policy Research Private Enterprise Development in Low-Income Countries (PEDL) is inviting proposals from researchers around the world for its Major Research Grant Projects. The major purpose of the grant project is to better understand what determines the strength of market forces driving efficiency in Low-Income Countries (LICs).
The grant fund covers research assistance, data collection and new surveys in low-income countries along with teaching buyouts for the principal investigator. The minimum grant award under this call is £100,000 for each Major Grant and the project can be of maximum 36 months. Proposals addressing fragile and conflict affected states; gender; and climate, environment and social compliance are highly encouraged.
PEDL research themes for projects –
- Modeling market frictions in LICs using newly available data
- Micro-foundations of aggregate private sector performance
- The dynamics of SMEs: Informality and entrepreneurship
- The role of export-oriented industries in driving growth
The call is concentrated in micro studies of markets, including the role of intermediaries and contractual enforcement; identifying high growth microenterprises; and agglomeration and other issues related to cities and firms.
Eligibility Criteria –
- Researchers throughout the world are eligible to apply for the grant program.
- The projects must focus in low-income countries.
- Projects focusing in middle-income countries (MICs) in which DFID has an active program can also apply if it includes concrete steps in the Policy Impact Plan to reach policymakers in LICs.
