United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is accepting innovative applications that inspires and makes measurable impact along with the possibilities of replicability from individuals or institutions around the world for ‘Land for Life’ Award 2014. The award function aims to raise awareness of the global benefits of soil generation and preservation, and promote understanding that the dry lands are part of the solution to today’s most pressing problems.
The applications should have result in one of the following – technical implementation; policy measures and leadership; business practices; advocacy, education and empowerment; and scientific finding and knowledge sharing. The selected applications will be available for institutions to nominate with statements not more than 300 words.
The competition will award total three Awards from total fund up to $100,000; a medal; free travel and accommodation to attend the award function (in case of underage recipient, an accompanying family member will also be financed for travel and accommodation; ‘Healthy Soils Gold Medal’ label to use on related products and communications; and UNCCD will make and publish a video of the winning projects.
Eligibility Criteria –
- Any individual, institution, non-governmental organizations and civil society, private sector, academic and research organizations, policy makers, and journalists and media who has made a significant and innovative contribution to sustainable land management are eligible.
- Applicants can be of any race, gender, nationality, religious beliefs, political views or geographical location.
- Applications can be made direct or by third party explaining the activity and its result
- One institution can nominate as many third-party applications as they like. Self nomination is also accepted.
