The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is inviting private voluntary organizations based in the United States (US POVs) or indigenous, local non-governmental organizations (LNGOs), public international organizations (PIO) and international organizations (IO), US and non-US for-profit organizations, US and non-US colleges and universities to submit grant applications to implement Access to Information program. The three-year program is regional focusing on Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan combining country-specific as well as regional activities. The projects are expected to increase citizen access to civically-relevant information to improve government outcomes.
Objectives:
- Increased regional cooperation to improve the competitiveness of non-state media outlets through content generation and sharing
- Increased resilience of independent media to survive the impending, treaty-mandated shift to digital broadcasting in 2015 across Central Asia
- Professional Standards for Diverse and Sustainable Media Voices – Increased Professionalism, National Networking, and Diversity of Media Voices.
- Improved Legislative and Policy and Environment
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants can be private voluntary organizations based in the United States (US PVOs) or indigenous, local non-governmental organizations (LNGOs), public international organizations (PIO) and international organizations (IO), US and non-US for-profit organizations, US and non-US colleges and universities.
- US PVOs must be registered (or in the process of being registered) with USAID to be eligible to apply.
- Local NGOs must be registered under the laws of the cooperating country or under the laws
- of a country in the region of the proposed activity with its principal place of business in the cooperating country or region. They must be managed by a governing body, the majority of whom are citizens or lawful permanent residents of the
- cooperating country or region; and must attach official documentation of their formal legal status as an NGO in the host country or in a country in the region. The local NGOs are not required to register with USAID.
